9/29/2011 8:30:44 PM by jag83 UK I have just left Prince Farm and have only got good things to say. Nick is lovely,he is laid back, easy to talk to and incredibly knowledgable. Nick is full of fun stories about his hippie days but also knows a alot about the history of the area as well as America in general. The house is under renovation so the accommodation is not luxurious but more than satisfactory - there is a comfy bed and a good shower. Nick is not a task master and you get a good mix of work and relaxing, Southern style. Snoddy the dog will keep you company while you do yard work and lay at your feet on the porch swing in the evenings. Despite Nick telling me that he is not a good cook his meals were always tasty. There are plenty of snacks on offer and you won't go hungry.

Hello! My friend Mike and I went down to Tabor City in August, not knowing what to expect for a first time experience as WWOOfers. 20 minutes after being at Nick's farm, we felt like it was home, due to his great southern hospitality. We stayed only for 2 weeks, but in these 2 weeks we learned a ton of stuff. Not to mention, he as an extensive library, touching on just about any topic you can think of. Awesome place to go! Awesome animals! And Nick's a great cook, always keepin' it spicy. Work hard and have fun! We hope to go back sometime soon! Mike & Nate

Nick is indeed a great host. Food and hospitality were top notch and accommodations were more than satisfactory. Nick expects hard work but he's fair. If you're getting stuff done he won't burn you out. Internet use is limited and the only thing within walking distance is a gas station so plan accordingly. Trips to Wal Mart and the laundrymat happen every other week or so, which for me was more than enough. Nick is great company and has a deep well of knowledge. Come to learn and you won't be let down. The property was beautiful and experience was authentic. Definitely recommended.

Hello wwoofers !
I've been to Prince Bay Farm, NC, for the whole month of February. That was an amazing experience ! Everything was perfect : Nick is a great host, very smart and full of knowledges. The conversations were very interesting, the place was beautiful and the work under the sun wasn't exhausted. All can be summed up in one word : awesome !!

I stayed here for the last two weeks of June. This was a great first Wwoofing experience. The farm and land are beautiful. The workload was not too heavy...just make sure you work conscientiously and you will be fine. There is time in the afternoon to read, explore the woods, etc. Conversating in the evenings was enjoyable...Nick has all sorts of fascinating theories and stories. I didn't want to leave.

This was a wonderful wwoofing experience. I enjoyed the hard work and it didn't seem intimidating because Nick was so helpful is showing how he wanted things done and explaining the logic behind tasks. The land is peaceful and beautiful and the house has many many books to dive into. I enjoyed the constant good stories and humor when we all lounged together in the evenings. This farm is a winner!

Nick greeted me with open arms on my arrival. His farm is fantastic and one of the things that drew me to it was the age (1827). Prince blood runs deep in these parts and being such a well read individual Nick can certainly give you either a more detailed perspective or a totally different perspective than what you arrived with. He is super hospitable and the workload wasn't anything more than I expected. It was a savagely hot week being right in the heart of the "heat wave" and much sweating did occur!! A trip to the river, to the local bbq joint, some great cooking...it was a two thumbs up experience and a great one to have as my first helpx assignment.

I spent two weeks at the Prince Farm. Nick is great and easy to be around. There's plenty of work and Nick does a good job of matching talent and skills with the tasks that need doing. Nick has a wealth of knowledge about the land and farming too, so you're sure to learn something new as well! If you're in the area, I recommend giving Prince Farm a try.

Although we did not stay long our stay was great ,nick was very knowledgeable and a great story teller, had many great conversations pertaining to many different subjects. I Would like to see the farm develop into a great place for all us hippies to congregate, its a great spot. One of the greatest time was hangin out with snoody the dog he kept you company as long as he wasn't harassing the cats. Thanks nick for hosting us hope to visit in the future.

This was a fantastic WWOOFing experience! Nick was a laid-back, knowledgable, and friendly host whom I enjoyed working and talking with during my two week stay on the farm. The land was beautiful and I look forward to returning to Prince Bay Farm sometime in the near future.

this's my first WWOOF experience, and i have to say that i'm so lucky to choose Prince Bay farm! Nick is a fantastic host, very knowledge and fun. Knowing that i'm from a totally different culture, he is willing to explain different aspect of American culture. The farm work is fair and is easy to be done. He is also a great and patient teacher and i learnt a lot from him! Thanks Prince Bay farm for giving me a special and fantastic Christmas break! I'm looking forward to coming back in a near future.

When we first found Prince Bay farm on the WWoof website it looked like the kind of place that we would fit in. It was everything the website described and then some! The two week stay with Nick seemed to fly right by and and felt like it was over all too soon. We had a very comfortable routine of Working hard everyday and then eating good food and having great conversations on just about every topic imaginable. If you choose to stay and work here you will gain just as much knowledge about history, politics, etc as you will about organic farming. all in all it was a great experience and we look forward to visiting Prince Bay farm again..

I spent 3 weeks in Prince Bay Farm last summer, it was my first helpx experience, and my first backpack trip. It was a pleasure to work in the farm with Nick who is a very friendly host. The farm and the wood around are great, you can do many different jobs (gardenning, cleanning the forest...), and Nick made me visit some places around : Trippy river, Myrtle beach... We went also to Charleston ! The life in the farm is very pleasant and confortable, it was also a pleasure to meet his son Nicholas, and his friend Nikki. I highly recommend Prince Bay Farm to stay in NC/SC !

During this past spring break, I went to Prince Bay Farm, which located in Tabor City, North Carolina. It was a wonderful time in my life and I highly recommend this place to other volunteers. I am a college student from China, a country which has totally different culture. I worked with a French girl and an American guy. During my stay, we had a good time together, learning how to plant seeds, how to set up campfire, and most excitingly, I learned to shoot a gun! These skills are critical to survival and I would never have the chance to experience them in China. Thus, what we learned were not only farming skills, but also a way to live in a harsh environment. Also, we did nothing too arduous. Instead, we had plenty of free time chatting, telling stories and watching movies. This was the first for me to stay in a native American family and I will never forget. The farm has a wide range of woods with wild animals such as deer, a lovely dog--Snoddy (my best friend!), several cats, chickens, a turkey and geese. Everyone lives together peacefully and happily under the lovely weather. Nick is a brilliant person and a great host. With him, people will never get bored because he has infinite stories to tell--about history, about culture, about economics. Actually, he knows everything and he has a huge collection of books in his house. He took us to Myrtle Beach and to eat seafood. Also, he picked us up and sent us to the airport. Therefore, he regards us as his own kids. If time allows, I would be extremely happy to stay for a longer time. So I have decided to visit the farm soon, maybe next semester. Overall, I enjoyed my stay there and will recommend this place to all my friends.

I got to Prince Bay at the beginning of march and it was right before spring really took off this year. I spent a large portion of my time working on a drainage ditch project around one of the edges of the property, since i got there before the last frost we didn't do much planting while i was there. We did build some potato baskets, clip the wings of chickens, prepare the raised beds, have a camp fire, go to the beach, visit a record store with an impressive collection of old vinyl, started work on a small house built out of old pallets, and more that i can't think of right now. Nick's land is beautiful, from the old house and barn, to the immense acreage of forest filled with trails, to the general southern inner-coastal landscape surrounding. Also Nick's dog Snoddy and all the barn cats are great company when enjoying the backyard or one of the bench swings on the front porch as you look out at an old magnolia tree, and just beyond a state road, and more fields and small houses as far as you can see in any direction. I could go on for awhile about the good food and relaxing afternoons after working, but you'll find out for yourself. However, i should say DON'T BOTHER APPLYING IF YOU'RE ONLY LOOKING FOR A VACATION, even though the work that was asked of me was nothing beyond reasonable and the amount of free time afterwards was very rewarding, that work is expected of you. If you come during the warmer months this will be a great place to spend a couple days, weeks, or more. Enjoy!

We just spent two weeks at Prince Bay Farm. Nick treats his wwoofers very well, and we had a great time. The dinners he made were "plate lickin' good" and he keeps a shelf full of snacks for us to enjoy in the evenings. There are two bedrooms, both with two beds and tons of books. Also, wireless internet is provided. As far as the work, I really enjoyed it. The day was structured very well, with the harder stuff in the morning before it get's hot, and a variety of shorter more interesting tasks after lunch. Nick gives very good instructions, and wwoofers should not be afraid to ask questions. Leisure time with Nick is always interesting. He knows a lot and is very funny. He expects you to be respectful of him and his home, but at the same time makes it a very comfortable and pleasant environment. I highly recommend this farm.

I visited Prince Bay Farm for 2 weeks beginning mid April 2013. It was my first WWOOF experience and I hope all subsequent experiences will be just as good. Check out the Facebook page. Farm Host Nick Prince provides excellent information about what it's like working and living on his farm. What you read is what you get. He is a heavy smoker so if you don't like it or can't tolerate it, I would recommend that you don't apply. Host Nick is very knowledgeable and up to date on the sustainable movement and many other topics, which makes for lively conversation. I had fun learning growing techniques and getting my hands dirty. Snoddy dog and the feline critters are sweet and lovable. Geese, chickens, and Tom the turkey all add to the gentle roar that is farm life at Prince Bay. Host Nick will teach how to build a fire the right way at Sleepy Bear fire pit. He is also in the process of grooming more hiking trails on the property. I enjoyed walking in the woods and seeing wild blueberry bushes line the trails as well as numerous other wild flowers and plants. Overall, this WWOOF experience was very positive. Hopefully, I can return in September, taste the bounty of the harvest, and help on the farm once again.

Volunteering at Prince Bay Farm was a great experience and I am already longing to go back. Nick is a great guy with a bunch of stories that he likes to share, and it was a lot of fun listening to him talk about his hippie days (which aren't really in the past, he does wear batik shirts and has a beard).
The work is mostly fun, Nick is a great teacher and gives good instructions. During my short, weekly stay I got to do a lot of different shores and left the farm feeling inspired and filled with a lot of new knowledge. The accommodations are basic but comfortable. Don't miss spending your afternoons on the porch with Snoddy dog and the other critters.
I would recommend Prince Bay Farm to anyone who's not only looking to learn about farming, but also wants to have a great time with their host!

My boss Nick,we always joked about each other, is a brillian, knowledgeable, easy-going and funny person. I really enjoyed the two weeks staying, we went to the beach, went to a fantastic gift shop, went to swimming in the river, went to have nice local seafood in a seafood restaurant. There are plenty of books and movies, I like the dinner time when we sitting together in the living room and watching movies. By the way, Nick is a good cook, I expected the delicious meals every day. It was a pity that I miss the harvest of the blueburry, I hope I can come back next time.

Nick is a great farm host. He is willing to come pick you up if you lack transportation from the airport or bus station. His house and farm are beautiful and welcoming. There is an air of being at home. Beyond being completely knowledgable in many of life's arenas, his work ethic is on point. He thoroughly explains the tasks he wants accomplished and then gives you room to do it yourself. He has clear guidelines and boundaries which lends itself to making both Nick and the WWOOFers comfortable. You will definitely learn a ton about the land, plants, planting, harvesting, permaculture and beyond. Highly recommended, five star farm host!

Nick Prince is a responsible and accommodating host. Work days are well planned out with room for flexibility in the schedule. The work itself is not too strenuous, and Nick gives clear instructions and gladly answers questions. The farm is a quiet, small farm in the dormant town of tabor City. I visited late April but would love to go back later in the summer to eat all the delicious vegetables that Nick grows. When at Prince Bay Farm, ask questions and take advantage of Nick's vast knowledge, life experiences and opinions that range from everything to the specifics of organic farming, to the war on terror to how best to hitch hike! I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and felt comfortable and at home in Nick's farm.
6/2/2013 1:43:59 PM by robbiedei CT
I stayed at Prince Bay Farm for two weeks, and it was a very enjoyable experience. Despite it being a relatively small operation, Nick is growing an impressively wide variety of veggies and herbs, as well some raising some chickens, ducks, a turkey, and a couple of geese. There are also some cats around and of course, Snoddy, the chillest dog you'll ever meet.
Nick assigns work according to your strengths and interests, and is very fair. Work hard and you'll have plenty of free time in the afternoon and evening to relax, which gives you time to explore Nick's enormous book and movie collections. Name any subject, and he will find a related book for you to browse through. He's also spent a lot of time clearing trails in the woods on his property (which you'll end up doing too), which makes for good wandering.
There isn't much happening around Tabor City, but if you really feel the need to escape the beach is about 45 minutes away. On hot days, Nick may also take you to the river to swim. I spent most of my free time reading or playing guitar. Nick is also good company and a fascinating individual, and you'll hear tons of stories about his life and about the deceptively sleepy town of Tabor. If you're the type that needs someone else to be entertained, however, I would recommend visiting with a friend.
All in all, I was very happy with my experience and would recommend Prince Bay Farm to a friend :)

It's hard to say more than what has already been said here. But I'll try. I couldn't be more glad that I started my wwoof experience at Prince Bay Farm. My first visit I got a grand tour of not only the farm but an opening and outpouring of Nick's knowledge about every plant, tree, bug, bird ad infinitum. If it is living on the farm, Nick knows what it is and why it's there. The work is not overbearing, is explained well and if you mind yourself you just may learn something while doing it! When work is over you have the peace of the farm to relax and soak in or you can let Nick rant about various topics from contextual history, Rainbow gatherings, Pagan festivals, conspiracy "theories" or his own opinions. WARNING: at Prince Bay Farm, some volunteers may experience symptoms of cognitive dissonance when talking with Nick. So put your grown-up pants on and don't go crying to your grade school teachers if he says something you don't agree with. More than likely, you can search through his extensive library (or memory) for his source, then read it and decide for yourself. For those who don't like that idea, there is basic cable at the farm. I couldn't have been more happy to work at Prince Bay; I wouldn't pass up the freezer pops, blueberries, crock-pot meals, Snoddy dog and an the mind liberating experience of Nick's humble abode for the world. *****

I spent one week in Prince Bay Farm, it was my first wwoofing experience and I can tell now one week is not enough! I just started to learn what I have to do and How! The work is not really difficult, cut the wood, watering, pick blueberry, pick up the grass of the flower bed, feed the chicken and cuddle all the pet!! I spent the week just with Nick and is a really interesting guy! I learned a lot about organic farm and also America history! thanks for this week!

My stay at Prince bay farm was absolutely wonderful. Nick was incredibly helpful and knowledgeable, whenever you ask him a question he either has an answer, or he owns a book with the answer. The dinners were delicious and he was very accommodating when it came to snacks and keeping his workers happy. Make sure to stay clean and remember to clean your dishes, but these are small tasks to remember considering how much Nick provides for his woofers. The land and the woods on his lands can allow one to learn a lot about themselves. Overall I would recommend any woofer to the Prince Bay farm, I had a good experience.
10/23/2013 9:10:18 AM by emilyrexford WI
I stayed at Prince Bay for a month at the beginning of the summer. My experience was a good introduction to the WWOOF community, Nick is incredibly knowledgeable about all sorts of topics and has an extensive library. The food was good, not exactly what I was expecting when going to an organic farm (everything except what we ate from the garden was not organic) The work was good, strenuous things done in the morning and lighter work in the afternoon due to the heat. I learned a great deal about having a homestead and got to flip through a few wonderful books. Nick is a heavy smoker so if you are bothered by smoke this wouldn't be the place for you. All in all I am happy with my experience at Prince Bay and hope Snoddy and Nick are doing well.

I visited Prince Bay Farm a few months ago, and it was amazing! We ended up having to leave early for unrelated reasons, but Nick was completely understanding and helpful. Even in my brief time at the farm, I feel like I learned so much about gardening and life in general from all of Nick's stories! He is an excellent cook as well, even though I'm a vegetarian I was always well-fed. Great first experience WWOOFing, I'd love to return and see how the trails in the woods are developing!

I stayed on the farm for 3 weeks. I went there in December and spent unforgettable Christmas and New year on the farm. Nick was the coolest person I have ever met since I went to US. He was funny, intelligent and knowledgeable. I did not feel bored since he can always come up with interesting topics. Since I was the only volunteer on the farm at that time, I was kind of nervous about safety at the beginning. But Nick was reliable and my worries was unnecessary. During my stay, I also watched a lot of movies that he owned, which made me know more about American culture. I have done many things that I haven't done before during that time, like shotgunning, driving a tractor, painting trees, weeding...even happy dance! Food was very good there and room was comfortable as well.
If you want to have a unique experience on a farm in southern America, Prince Bay Farm would be a good choice. For me, I will definitely come back!

Nick is a good person, we spent there for more than two weeks, had great time to stay with him. He didnt let us work outside if the weather was cold or wet, and was patient with explaining all he knows, thanks that! He cooked pretty well, everything was sooooo yummy, and ha we ate lots of sweet potatos! Thanks for came back to pick us up again due to the winter storm came to, flight had been canceled for 3 days. Thanks again!

Whether working in the ditches, talking with Nick, practicing juggling with the other volunteer or horsing around with the very infamous and much loved Snoddy Dawg, my two weeks here were excellent! I would definitely recommend spending some time at this farm to anyone! Cheers Nick!

Me and my friend matt left prince bay a little over a month ago. Having worked on a couple of other farms before, I've got to say I really like how Nick does things. He's super laid back (like a farmer should be) and extremely easy to get along with. Honestly he's one of the coolest most knowledgeable guys I've ever had the opportunity to meet. During the day we worked hard, but not drudgingly long (its a very fair deal on both ends). You earn your accommodations and he makes sure that those accommodations are well suited for his volunteers. Still, keep in mind this is a FARM. If you want luxury living with a giant bedroom and private bathroom then you're looking in the wrong place. My favorite part, despite having gone for the farming experience, may very well have been the nights when we'd talk for hours about everything from corrupt bankers to rainbow gathers to the local history to just about anything you could think of. I shared a lot of views with him and went out of my way to pick his brain on a lot of things. I can confidently say that I learned more real world skills and practical, useful knowledge in one month at prince bay then a semester of college, the guy is like a walking encyclopedia. Can't say enough good things about Nick and his farm- it was truly a wonderful experience that I'll never forget. I highly recommend a visit to Prince Bay Farm and legendary Nick the Prince. I miss it already, thanks Pagan!!

I've got nothing but good things to say about my two-month stay at Prince Bay (March - April of 2014). To start with the obvious, the food and accommodations are great. You definitely won't go hungry, and whether you're staying indoors or outdoors, you'll be comfortable either in your own room or at a beautiful campsite in the woods. Nick is a fantastic host who'll keep your head humming with fantastic stories, theories, facts, and ideas; there's never a dull conversation at Prince Bay! You definitely need a good sense of humor to fare well here, but what life is worth living if you can't laugh at everything? The land itself is home to a bountiful variety of plants and animals that Nick has worked hard to maintain as a preserve of native and exotic species. His style of propagating and naturalizing plants is really, really cool, and you can expect to be digging up stuff from one end of the yard and transplanting it at the other end, getting the most possible mileage out of each and every herb and tree. The work can and will be labor intensive (Beware the ditches!), but at five or six hours a day, it's more than a fair deal for what WWOOFers receive in exchange and much, much better than living in the "real world". Nick has very reasonable expectations, and as long as you're actually trying and not loafing off, everyone will be happy. The rules are simple, clearly laid out, easy to follow, and not any more strict than should be expected. Pretty much everything you need to know about the farm is in the above description, so if you read it carefully, there shouldn't be any surprises. All in all, I grew a lot at Prince Bay and really enjoyed my time with such a "charming Prince". Much love to Nick, Snoddy Dawg, and all the other plants and critters at Prince Bay. Thanks for a great couple of months everyone!
June 17, 2014 Dustin Kile PAAll I can really say is if you are thinking about helpxing in NC do yourself a favor and go to prince bay farm. The farm itself is beyond beautiful. Nick is so knowledgeable on a MA$$!VE variety of topics. Snoddy dog is my main man, he's just about the coolest dog to sit on the front porch and kick it with. God I could go on and on. The only thing negative I could say (and it wasn't a negative for me at all) is There isn't a ton of stuff to do in Tabor city, but Myrtle Beach is 20 min away so no big. Prince Bay Farm is very much a place of serenity that will forever be in my heart. I know that anytime I find myself in NC I have a place that I will be welcomed with open arms. Thanks so much to nick,snoddy-dog,and all the other helpers (you guys were so awesome and i luv u all). OK now I'm getting a Lil misty over here so peace.

We had the pleasure of staying with Nick for a couple weeks in April. The farm is beautiful, a great place to relax in the evenings. There are extensive trails on the property and numerous agricultural endeavours underway, all of which Nick is extremely learned about. It's definitely worth picking his brain about anything on the farm you might be interested in, be it plants, animals or history.
The jobs are varied and Nick is always very open to new ideas or fitting a wwoofer to a job that suits their skills/interests. The work is challenging but certainly not unreasonable. Always plenty of food to eat. Accommodations are rustic.
I will say that though Nick is a remarkably kind, friendly and well intentioned individual, his sense of humour and some of his opinions may be a bit difficult for some people. He is not malicious, ignorant or close minded (in fact quite the opposite), but if his thoughts or beliefs contradict yours he is unapologetic, feeling that it is, of course, his house where he needn't pretend to be anyone but himself and that you are there to learn from him. Again, I stress the fact that he is incredibly kind, open, friendly, funny and all around great person to work with and be around, and I want to thank him for the amazing stay.
Thanks again Nick. Say hi to Snoddy for us.

My friend and I had a Two-week Experience on Prince Bay Farm Vacation this summer and made friends with Two French guys as Well. Work for Girls Mainly is Picking, washing, Cutting, pickling vegetables and fruits, taking. care of crops, weeding, moulding, cutting grass and feeding poultry. The workload is OK. Nick is nice and hospitable, treating us not only like friends but also sons and daughters. We enjoyed talking with him when preparing for meals and learned more about America. Nick is a bookworm. He took us to Myrtle Beach and the river if time permitted. We tried a lot of fresh things. The experience did enrich our trip in USA! If you are available, please help him clean the house. Men do not pay much attention to this after all ...

He cooked wonderfully delicious food every day in exchange for 5 hours of work, 6 days a week. I hope to see this guy in the future one day and would recommend that anybody who is interested in living in the country and gaining farm experience stay with Nick for a bit.”

Nick was a very informative host. He is knowledgeable about all plants and vegetables growing on his farm. He has good intentions for sustainability, expansive ideas, and willingness to hear the ideas of others. He has many projects "in the works" and is appreciative of cooperative and hard working volunteers. My 3 weeks spent here at the Farm were memorable, accommodating, and enlightening, as well as relaxing and rewarding. Everyone should experience and encourage the idea of sustainable living. Nick has the ability to make you feel welcome, comfortable, and appreciated. Thank you Nick.

“Think the other comments have got it covered! This is absolutely an experience I would recommend. I had an inspiring and transformative 3 weeks at Prince Bay, with enriching/hilarious conversations and lots of time getting to know the extensive plant and animal life at the farm. If you go in open to being challenged and willing to learn, you will have a rewarding experience. Nick is a respectful and fun host (as well as an excellent cook), and his farmhouse library is a bookworm's heaven. So grateful for the time at Prince Bay and I hope to be back!”

I and my 4 year old daughter has spent on the farm, Nick 5 weeks. Came to him with a zero level of English. My English became better! I realized this on another farm. Thank you very much, Nick, for your patience and understanding! Thank you very much Enna for your patience and help in translation of she as we were visiting Nick. We worked often less than 5 hours, the work is diverse and interesting. In the rain and when cold no worked. Nick a lot can tell interesting, has a lot of books. I wish I there was little he could understand. I really liked the original design of his house!(a huge number of doors and Windows, very interesting). Nature and plants in his area did not surprise me, because where I live all the same. I was surprised the other approach to many things i know. I have made many discoveries for themselves! Thank you, Nick, for your hospitality!

“I spent a month at Prince Bay Farm from February to January. Overall I had a great time. Haha I can't think of much to say that isn't already written here. I stayed in the house as well as in the fun house. Nick is a very accommodating, interesting, and good-humored guy. Snoddy's a great dog, and the other guests that I was there with were great too. The food was good, the books and movie selection was good. Working outdoors is always good for you. The only complaints I might have might be about the weather, but even that was not so bad. I had a truly unforgettable time and I hope you do too.”

I just finished my stay with Nick on Prince Bay farm and I couldn't have asked for a better first helpx experience. Nick is very friendly, I immediately felt at home on his farm. During my stay I had the opportunity to help get the farm ready for the season and help plant what seemed like countless vegetables. Nick is extremely knowledgable about what he's doing on the farm (not to mention various other topics as far reaching as you could imagine), and it would be difficult to stay with him and not learn a whole lot. I highly reccommend a stay at Prince Bay Farm for anyone interested in learning about organic farming, or just looking to meet good people.

“Nick is immensely knowledgeable, and always willing to share it. Not only is he a walking encyclopedia, but he has a lot of stories to tell too. The work is manual, but rarely unenjoyable. Nick is patient, always willing to clarify and give instruction. He expects volunteers to work hard, and it’s not hard to fulfill that expectation given the amount time he expects volunteers to work. Pretentious and disrespectful people probably won’t get along with Nick; Nick is neither. The two months that I spent at Prince Bay Farm flew by; I learned a lot, about farming and America. If you’re looking for good meals, good work, good conversation and good people, I recommend a stay with Nick and Snoddy Dawg.”

“I'm glad that my first wwoofing experience was at Prince Bay farm. Nick told us a lot about plants and other interesting things. And also he taught me how to swim! That's great. Also there are other wwoofers from different places. It was an exciting thing to become friends with them and had fun together! Only one negative point is that insects liked me. T-T, Fleas, ants and mosquitos bite me a lot. T-T”

I had the pleasure to stay on Nick´s farm for a night! I wish it had been more! What an amazing place! People living together, working on the farm together, ... I really enjoyed our talks and the tour I he gave me of the farm! Keep up the good work, Nick!

Nick prince bay farm! The best place you can find in America.
We have such a great experience there. Our job there is not so hard. And Nick is good cook. You don't need to think about losing weight there. The time after work is always funny. And I have to say Nick knows many things about China more than I do. Anymay, this place worth a try if you go to America.

I can't express enough gratitude to Nick for those two weeks I spent on the unforgettable Prince Bay Farm. Working on his farm was never boring since there were various stuffs to do and they were not heavy at all. I slept in a cozy cabin beside the woods and tasted genuine American-style cuisines almost everyday. Nick himeself is an execellent cook, wise farmer, humourous talker, thoughtful person and generous host. After working hours, we hung out at the beach, learned about shotgun, made homemade icecream and so on. Above all, I met people from China, Japan, Belgium and New York which was a lot of fun and super unique experience. If you are looking for a culture exchange rather than merely working experience, Prince Bay Farm is definitely your best choice.

I had a great experiences for 20 days at Prince Bay Farm. Farm work was fun. Especially, I can see the eyes of vegetables daily growing. It was fun. And animals are very cute.
And then, he knows everything. There is a very interesting conversation with him, and delight me. I was happy. He is friendly and good person. If you spend at his farm, that will really enjoy farm life.
Thank you so much!!!!

As my first HelpX experience, I have to say that i'm very lucky to have chosen Prince Bay farm! Nick is a fantastic host, very knowledgeable, and fun. Knowing that I'm from a totally different culture, he was willing to explain different aspects of his culture and learn about my own. I had my own room, plenty of privacy, and felt completely safe while staying there. The farm work is fair, easy to accomplish & Nick was very flexible about the jobs I did. He is also a patient teacher & I learned much from him, and he knew how to have lots of fun! The other volunteers made each day interesting and enjoyable, during and after work. Thanks Prince Bay farm for giving me a fantastic first HelpX experience! I'm looking forward to coming back in a near future.

I stayed with Nick for 4 weeks and it was absolutely fantastic. He is a blast to be around and the farm is so nice and peaceful. I loved getting outside everyday and working in the garden and seeing the changes in it while I was there. You really see your work pay off when you're eating a meal with stuff you've picked right from the garden. Nick is a fantastic host and has so much knowledge to share. I learned so much in the month I was there about many different things. I hope one day to make it back and see all the new changes that have happened on the farm.

There is so much to be said about Nick, but I don’t want to spoil it for you, just like you won’t want someone to tell you the story of a good movie before you watch it. What I will say is that you can always expect a good conversation with Nick, it may be entertaining - with stories about past volunteers, stories about Nick as a hippie, Nick as a health inspector, Nick as a ladys' favorite, lol; it may be educational - with knowledge about organic farming and herbal medicine, also expect him to talk candidly about issues with the US politics and society. Nick doesn’t act like someone typical for his age -not serious or stern, but humorous and cheerful. His psychological age has to be in the twenties. I would especially recommend this farm if you are a hungry book reader. Nick has quite a book collection on broad topics, I discovered and read a few really good books during my stay there.
If I were to list all the things we did, it would probably be a long list of different little things. Obviously one would be doing different tasks at different time of the year. October is mostly about harvesting, gathering, and preserving. I would like to go back in spring time and learn more about planting and caring for young plants.
For the most part, I find the work physically manageable. Nick does taking into consideration of one’s physical capability, but expect to have a good sweat and sore feelings from time to time. For the most part, working on this farm reminds me of my childhood, when my mother had a vegetable garden and a chicken coup. It reminds me what life used to be like: we eat what we harvest, and nothing goes to waste. Left-overs and spoiled food go to the farm animals or the compost. That has always been the most cherished part of my childhood memory, and I am ever so grateful to relive that experience. I can imagine that a lot of millennial growing up in China had similar experience, before everything became a urban sprawl and everyone moving into these high rising concrete apartment complexes.
The weather was great for the most part of my stay, and I found myself wanting to stay outside and enjoy the beautiful lawn under the canopy of 130-year-old pecan trees, with the company of farm animals. Snoddy Dawg is like a person trapped in a dog body, he is such an unique part of this farm. Snoddy makes you feel like that you are an old friend of his on the day you just me him (Nick is the same way in that sense): he will welcome you upon your arrival, follow you when you work, hang out with you like a friend.
Must know before coming:
Expect to do work and get dirt on you - remember that dirt and soil is not dirty. Expect a farm house to be just that - it’s not a hotel.
Have sufficient English proficiency. If anything is unclear, ask Nick for clarification.
Watch out for fire ants and mosquitos, they are relentless. I find wearing cloths that cover all skin (a long sleeve hoodie and long pants) helps avoiding getting bitten by them.

Nick is a very fantastic guy!!! Although I just stayed in the farm for only ten days, Nick gave me many knowledges by his life experience, his stories with other volunteers and his farming skills. If you are a Chinese, I think you are very lucky coming here because Nick knows many things about China and you'll be surprised that there are a lot of Chinese book in his bookshelf. Communication is the most important thing for us to participate in HelpX. It's no doubt that my goal came true in my trip here. I thought american food was not delicious until I came to Nick's farm. He made delicious american local food for me and it's fucking good!!! In farm you can see farms cats, Snoddy dog, gooses, roosters, turkey, hens and different kinds of plants. Although it was winter I coming here, it was still interesting because everything is new for me. But I think it'll be better coming to farm in summer because it's possible for you to meet more other volunteers and see more colorful natural world.

I stayed in Nick farm during almost 3 weeks, I had a blast there. Nick has a high general knowledge, I learned more about growing vegetables and cook. On the free time we went to myrtle beach city to chill out and a couple of restaurants.

"Nick knows everything there is to know about farming/ agriculture, and has an immense collection of books on all subjects. I was only there for about two weeks, but it was a fun, short experience."
February 2016 Rasmus Larsen Denmark
"Though I only stayed with Nick, Snoddy Dawg and his kittens and fowls for about a week, I managed to feel a lot like home. There's always work to be done on the farm, whether you're a bodybuilder or an ittibitty person. Nick will also always make sure to tell you some fantastic stories of his life with volunteers! And if you get bored by that just ask him about his early hippie-life, that'll make up for many evenings of wonder! I really enjoyed my stay with Nick, can easily recommend this to others!"

"It was so great meeting and staying with Nick at the farm! He has a lot of life stories to tell, and an interesting sense of humor :) This was my first time on a farm, and I really enjoyed it. It was wonderful learning about all the plants, and Nick took time explaining things with patience. I liked the variety of tasks that he had us do - I felt like I was learning new things. Plus I loved spending so much time outdoors in nature! Nick and Snoddy dawg were great! I would definitely recommend this farm :)"

"I had an invigorating experience at the farm, it was the botanical tonic I needed in my life. Between Nick's knowledge and the library I learned about a great number of plants. From find mushrooms and gathering young pines in the large forest to weeding and tending to the garden and pecan trees, there was a diversity of tasks. Nick is easy to work with and explains everything clearly. There are projects and gardening year round. I recommend this farm!"

Nick and prince bay farm are FULL of LIFE! Nick welcomed me into his home and he along with the farm taught me so much in two weeks. I gained knowledge and new perspectives on life from spending time there. If you have a question, Nick has an answer! He and the farm gave me a greater appreciation for our earth and all the beings living on it. I loved waking up every morning to the sounds of animals and stepping out on the porch to say good morning to the sun! I'd suggest this farm to anyone looking to further their knowledge in any way and enjoy the beauty of Prince Bay farm! Much love to Nick for giving me an unforgettable first helpx experience!

I stayed this farm for two weeks. I think if you like nature and animals, it's a good place to stay! Most of work at this farm were not difficult, so you can make it even though you are a beginner. If weather permits, you can go to Myrtle beach in SC. It was really good place. Nick is humorous, so I enjoyed talking with them.He knows a lot of things like cultures and history. If you wanna challenge new things, I suggest you that you try to apply.
Anyway thank you for hosting me for two weeks, I enjoyed staying your farm and your foods!!
See you!

I stayed for two weeks and this farm is amazing. Nice and Nicholas are super nice, we shared a lot of good memories. Nick taught me how to use a raffle and sometimes brought me and other volunteers for to the river, and the beach. My adventure farm trip brcame even more interesting not only because I met them, but also the other volunteers. I met 2 Japanese and 2 Colombian here. We shared our traveling stories, and taught each other with our own language. Now I have 1 Japanese and 1 Colombian friend. I can visit them anytime.
There are too many good memories I have had with these "CRAZY" people. Hahahaha. My Lovely Snoddy dog and cat families. We had movies and games at night, we chatted, played, these are my favorite parts.
The work is very simple and not hard, but since I was not used to it, I feel a little bit tired sometime.
Love u guys. Definitely will be here again if I have time.:) Take care. Feel super super happy to read this comments. Tracing back to the memories, we had a lot of fun in ur lovely farm. Thanks for always sharing ur stories with me.Truly miss u and Nicholas and all friends that I had met there.

"I loved my time at Prince Bay Farm! Nick is an exceptional person, very funny and interesting. I met some other fantastic volunteers as well! The workload is fair for what you receive, and I felt like I gained a lot from my time working and talking to everyone (I heard some amazing stories). This was my first WWOOF experience, and I had an amazing time!"
September 2016 Lauren Hoff MI
"I just spent two weeks volunteering at Prince Bay Farm and had the time of my life. Nick was great, as were the other volunteers. I worked about five hours each day and then usually had the rest of the day to spend exploring NC and SC. This was my first WWOOF experience, and I'm really hoping that all of my future WWOOF experiences are as wonderful as this one was! I'm already missing my time on the farm and would love to return one day. Also, while Tabor City itself is rather small, there's a really cool trail system on the property, a nearby river, a lake, and Myrtle Beach is only a thirty minute drive. Anywho, I think that about sums it up--But seriously, this is a great farm to volunteer at, and I highly recommend it to all WWOOFers."

I had a nice stay at Prince Bay Farm. I stayed for a couple of weeks in the early spring of 2016 and got to help with field prep, seeding, caring for the animals, and enjoying the fresh country air!
Nick is a very interesting guy with lots of crazy stories, experiences and a huge breadth of knowledge on tons of topics. I think I would have enjoyed visiting when the season is in full swing, because Nick is growing a lot of different and interesting plants and food that weren't in season yet.
Nick was a generous and informative host, This was my first helpx experience and it was a good one to start for sure. One thing I would say is that Tabor City is pretty remote, not anything nearby really, but the peace and quiet can be nice!
But we did get to have some great BBQ at the local all you can eat buffet. Definitely a good place to stay and a good place to learn about farming, life and the low country of the Carolinas!

I had spent almost three weeks here in the August. It was a fantastic experience. My daily work was collecting okras and eggs, and I enjoyed about it. By the way, Nick's garden was huge. There were a lot of different kinds of vegetables, such as pepper, tomato, cucumber and noodle-bean. Everyday, we ate what we collected. It was fresh and nutrition. Moreover, Nick was a good cook, what he made was very delicious. I miss those food so much. You also can find a lot of fruit here, such as grape, watermelon and cantaloupe. The best thing is that you can eat all of them. Nick also made the blueberry jams for us, that's so great. It was the best blueberry jams, I had ever eaten.
It was a little bit hot in the North Carolina in August, but Nick would made the Ice-cream for us. He also drive us to the river and beach, which had much fun and cool.
Every night was our movie time, and Nick had collected so many different kinds of movies. I was a Harry Potter fan, and felt very happy to find a series movies about Harry Potter here.At that time, all of the volunteers and Nick watched the movies together and chatted with each other. We were from the different places. We shared the interesting stories and experience. It was a chance for us to know more about this world. I was so lucky to meet so many nice guys, and became friends with them. We would contact with each other no matter where we are, and cherish our friendship.
So, please choose the Nick Prince Farm. You will taste the delicious fresh food and different cultures

Nick is fun and funny. I just needed one night and he permitted that with no work required, inspite of needing a roof fixed. A no nonsense kind of guy with a big heart permitted my wife and me to stay a night and run in spite of having a roof repair need. He accepted me staying an extra night to repair the damage so I could clear my own conscience and pay for my stay. The extra day stay was no problem for him.. He was giving us a free stay anyway for one night and he wasn't setting any mandates to the contrary. He merely yielded to my request, gave me his son to assist me and let me do what I do and fixed the roof. No micromanaging. It was wonderful to be hosted by him. Don't try to take unfair advantage of him, He knows people and reads them well. Treat him right and you will have a host to come back to and probably have a friend for life. Enjoyable man and so was his son Nick also..

I spent two weeks on Prince Bay Farm and had a wonderful time there. Since it was not the busy time of the year, the farm stuff was quite easy, such as feeding cats, gathering pecans, picking hibicus and cotton(I liked this work very much), weeding, watering and digging sweet potatoes(this was much harder than others, but it was interesting). I had never done these stuff before, and I enjoyed them. Every night, we would watch a movie, which was the most fun of a day. Nick would tell me anything he knew about the movie. I learnt a lot from him. Last but not the least, Nick is a nick guy. He took me to some good restaurants, showed me around the beach, and tought me shooting. To sum up, it was an unforgettable experience. I recommand Prince Bay Farm to any helper who wants to find a good host.

Ok I don't think that Nick really needs another good review but ... as he's a friend now ... : come to Nick's place with an opened, traveler, hippy and generous spirit, he will like it. But don't forget you are entering his world : a warm, funny, relaxed and full of crazy stories world if you get to know him well. I highly recommand this place, if you want to work the hands in the earth in beautiful surroundings. It was the best place I could have found for a first helpX experience. Thank you Nick for your warm welcome in the US, I hope I will see you again somewhere.
